The Weequahic Experience

Cole & Kate Kelly, Directors

Hello! Thanks for stopping by to learn a little more about us. We are thrilled to introduce you to Weequahic as well as let you know about our vision for the camp, our philosophy on working with children, and our experience.

Weequahic must be a safe, fun, and exciting place for children. Our campers build incredible friendships, learn new skills, and live in a community that cares for them. With the help of our experienced and supportive staff, we build a warm sense of family every day at Weequahic.

Speaking of family, we have a rambunctious one of our own. Eight year old Cole, six year old Jack, and four year old Luke love camp as much as we do. We are excited to raise our children alongside those of our camp families every summer.

We’ve enjoyed many years in camping and education as both directors and coaches. We directed prestigious camps for both girls and boys in New England for 7 years. Prior to joining the camp world, Kate spent 4 years directing a dorm and coaching at Northfield Mt. Hermon, earned a Masters of Education from Harvard, and was a three time captain of the Dartmouth women’s soccer team.

Cole spent the years before choosing the life of a camp director earning a MBA from the University of Georgia as well as a M. Ed from the University of Virginia. He also served as two time captain and, later, assistant coach of Virginia’s men’s golf team.

So, now you know a little bit more about us. We would like to learn about you and your interest in camp. Please give us a call (877.899.9695) or send us a note – we are always happy to talk about camp!

Full-Time Staff

We are thrilled to have Suzanne and Tony Baldwin on our full time staff. Tony was a standout student-athlete and four year letter winner in baseball while earning his degree from Butler University. Following his graduation, Tony spent the next fourteen years coaching NCAA Division I baseball at Butler University, Dartmouth College, and Michigan State University.

Suzanne was also a standout student athlete, finishing her collegiate soccer career as a first team All American and Academic All American at Dartmouth College. Sue moved on to coach soccer at Stanford and the University of Virginia before entering the camp profession in 2003. Since that time, Suzanne has served as a program coordinator, staffing director, and assistant director at several prestigious camps. She has also found time to continue her love of coaching soccer as the volunteer assistant coach at Michigan State University and, now, at the University of Georgia.

Parents of two very entertaining daughters, Tony and Sue bring a tremendous amount of experience, maturity, and excitement to life of Weequahic. Both work with us during the off season to hire and train the best staff in camping as well as help us prepare for another great summer at Weequahic. During the summer, they keep their eyes trained on the quality of our instruction and assist us in creating a safe and exciting environment for our campers.

Founding Family

Camp Weequahic was founded in 1953 by Art and Mollie Lustig. The moment you walk into the Weequahic Rec Hall, see all of the plaques from years past and catch a glimpse of the large eye-catching flag with only 48 stars….you can’t help but feel the rich history and tradition of Camp Weequahic. The ideal with which camp was started – to provide the best in camping – still holds true today, almost 60 years after their first campers spent their summer with them in Lakewood, Pennsylvania. Camp had been under the directorship of the same family for more than five decades. The camp continued its success as Art and Mollie’s daughter Gail, daughter and son-in-law Joan and Buddy, and their daughter Shari maintained its traditions.

Staff

Camp Weequahic takes extreme pride in and continues to be acknowledged for its superior, mature and caring staff. Our key supervisory staff, who return year after year, provides the foundation that ensures campers a summer that is both active and safe. This group is supported by over 70 upper level college students who are interviewed and selected by the directors.
